What the house holds, and for how long.

A club that asks for discretion should be able to account for its own. This is that account, and it asks you to take nothing on trust.

If you have been proposed

Someone may have put your name forward without telling you. It is how this club has always worked, and you are owed a plain account of it.

What the house was given came from her, and from nowhere else: not a list, not a register, not a search. Your name; and, where she knew them, your city, your email address, how she knows you, and a few lines on why she believes you belong in the room. That is the whole of it.

We hold it to decide one thing: whether to invite you to apply. The footing is legitimate interests: the club’s, in choosing whom it invites; hers, in making an introduction (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). We have written that assessment down, and we will send it to you if you ask for it.

Until the house decides to invite you, nothing happens to you. You are not written to. You are not added to any list. No machine decides anything about you. Nothing about you reaches a partner or a sponsor. If we do invite you, that letter is the first you will hear of it, and it tells you who proposed you.

If the house does not proceed, your name, and everything the nomination said about you, is destroyed seven days after that decision. Whatever we decide, or fail to decide, it is destroyed thirty days after the nomination unless the house has decided to invite you. What is left is a record with no one in it: a date, an outcome, and the name of the woman who wrote to us.

You need not wait for the clock. Write to us and we will tell you what we hold, and destroy it if you would rather it did not exist. You do not have to give a reason.

If you have put a name forward

You give the house your own name and email address when you write to us. They are used to consider the nomination, to reply to you, and to keep the club’s record of who proposed whom. The footing is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).

We keep them there indefinitely. The clock above is hers, not yours: it destroys her name and leaves yours standing, and that is deliberate. A record of who proposed whom is what makes this a club and not a list, and your name is the half of it that has to survive. The rights below are yours throughout, and they include objecting, and having your part destroyed, at any time and without a reason.

If you have been invited to apply, or you are a member

The application form asks a great deal of you, and asks your consent before it will accept any of it. Two footings hold what you give, and the difference between them is yours to use. Your membership itself (your name, your dues, your place in the club) rests on the agreement between you and the house (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR), not on your consent. Everything the form asks beyond that agreement (your children, your associations, the texture of your answers) rests on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), and you may withdraw it at any time without touching your membership.

What you give is held to run your membership and to shape the company and the gatherings around you. It is never passed to a partner or a sponsor, and it is never published. We keep it while you are a member, and at present we keep it afterwards with no fixed period; there is no clock on it, and if the house sets one, this page will say so. Ask us and we will destroy what rests on your consent; the rest goes when your membership has ended and you ask us for it.

These pages set no cookies, count no visitors, and carry no tracking of any kind. Nothing else here reaches anyone but us. The nomination form is the club’s own and runs on the club’s own system.

What you may ask of us

You may ask what we hold about you and have a copy of it, or a copy in a form you can take elsewhere. You may have it corrected, or its use limited while a question between us is unresolved. You may object to our holding it, or have it destroyed; what your membership itself rests on, our agreement with you, is the exception, for as long as it rests on it. Write to membership@lebeaumondeclub.com and the house will answer within one month.

If we have not answered you well

You may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the United Kingdom’s supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk. We would rather you wrote to us first. That is a preference, not a condition.
